well yes ok, but if they are going to open a few pubs on good friday! arent you going to get people drinking and driving, especially on a match like munster!they should have allowed the whole country. my argument or point was, give the people behind the counter one day off to enjoy something with the rest of us!

the people behind the counter surely get days off every now and then. if you gobnna work in the hospitality industry then you must accept that sometime syou will be working when everyone else is having a good time.

as for drinking and driving yes, but we get that every day! good friday will be no different

Sure, the pubs in Lourdes are open on Good Friday.

Was there not a heated debate last night on the blogs about just exactly WHY Ireland can't properly be considered a truly modern state?
Things like not opening pubs on Good Friday just to stay in keeping with a church law - a church that is fast loosing any credibility in a lot of people's eyes - are exactly what keeps Ireland from modernity!

Plus we all know what closing the pubs on good friday means. Everyone panick buying alcohol in the supermarket as if judgement day is upon us. people probably end up drinking more!

stupid arguement. open 363 day of the year! who do u know who drink 363 days a year? most civilised people drink 1-2 times a week and maybe a bit extra if an occasion comes up. the other 5-6 days they are off drink. there is no effect by closing for a day on what people drink or the drink culture in ireland. they'll drink if they want or if the dont they wont.

I never really minded the pubs closing on Good Friday, but if you're going to allow a few pubs open, you need to allow every pub open. Either it's allowed or it's not.

If I was a publican in any other part of the country I'd be kicking up a fuss.

I reckon they will, Good Friday in their eyes would be a goldmine.

Bit of a landmark, can't see them going back on it next year if all pubs are let serve

That's not the point - its being told you CANT drink on certain days of the year that gets up peoples noses.

Why should one religion dictate how everyone lives? Its like some kind of Sharia Law imposed by the state.

Comparing it to sharia law is a little excessive.
