I wish he had deliberately mistakenly said it, rather than purely accidentally, if you understand what I mean.

Could all be a deliberate mistake for more brownie points, he is a master of PR. But it sounded too natural, I do understand a fair bit of Italian and Spanish and I can see how he could easily make this mistake.

Pope Francis: Church could support civil unions

Pope Francis reaffirmed the Catholic Church's opposition to gay marriage on Wednesday, but suggested in a newspaper interview that it could support some types of civil unions.

The Pope reiterated the church's longstanding teaching that "marriage is between a man and a woman." However, he said, "We have to look at different cases and evaluate them in their variety."

For instance, civil unions provide financial security to cohabitating couples, "as for instance in medical care," the Pope said in a wide-ranging interview published Wednesday in Corriere della Sera, an Italian daily.

A number of Catholic bishops have supported civil unions for same-sex couples, including Pope Francis when he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 2010,

If he did support them it would be a seismic shift especially in the Third World.

Child abuse is catching up with the current Pope, from three strands:
- The classical heritage of his church, build on the very concept of sexual deviance (forced abstinence), a taste for secrecy, and the systematical bullying of the weak: the perfect storm to support a child abuse culture
- His own history, as it turns out (as expected) that he also protected abusers, because it was the done thing at the time, and they did not realize that victims are not the perpetrator but the literal victims; such simple times...
- His minister for finance, cardinal George Pell, is being indicted in Australia for pedophilia

The count down for a resignation has started. I bet for mid-2018. 2020 max.
