I think I drank more pints of Guiness this weekend then in my previous 12 years in Ireland.

But at least chocolate wise I only had a tiny egg, so there's that.

If you can afford one a personal trainer is a great way to get in shape. You work out way harder and smarter when you have one. Make sure you find a good one, though.

I'm gonna give Slimming World a go. Not a huge fan of these groups but it has worked for so many people I know that I really need to give it a chance.

My friend and flatmate is going and has lost over 1/2 stone in a few weeks.

You eat better and exercise more.
Don't feed the multi billion industry. Just get outdoors and start humping weights.

That doesn't work for everyone, Super.

I've worked out on my own and worked out with a trainer, I know which one I prefer.

I suppose that's true.
You strike me as a guy who can do shit on his own though Frodo?

Yes but when you're with a trainer he's constantly correcting your posture, keeping you motivate etc. He knows how hard you should be working and what your specific needs are.

I remember the first time I trained with one I had to lie down for about 20 mins after waiting for my heart rate to get back to normal. It was a far more intense workout than I'd manage on my own.

That's actually you best chance for it to work for you: if you go and do it with people who are around you. Also it can help making the house junk-free!

True. He's a good mate too so the meetings will be a lot more fun or at least more bearable.

I have a friend who has now lost over 46 kilos! That's about 7 stone 4 pounds.

Unreal!

She was morbidly obese and still has a lot to lose but I can't even imagine how hard it must have been to get that far.

Still, not not obsess about the numbers.
Too much focus on loosing kilos can be detrimental to the long term goal.

It's more about getting into a healthy routine.
After all, loosing water, and muscle, as well as emptying the content of the stomach and starving can get you down 10% of your weight in a week. But that it not sustainable or effective...

First few weeks are always the most impressive, then comes the real work!

While all that is true, no one has 46 kilos of water weight!

I am not saying that. How could I? I know nothing about her or you. Nothing apart from what you told us.

I am saying that looking at others's spectacular results, and having no other yardstick but weight is not a healthy aspiration.

And I am not saying you do not have any other yardstick either... Just that if you do not verbalize the other criteria, you may be over valuing the scale dictatorship, and it would not be helpful.
