Oh it's handheld

I thought it was a new Wii.

Need to get my Wii out again. Loved Mario Kart.

Pre-ordered mine today!

Seems they are selling out on pre-order's alone in several stores in the US. Only a matter of time before stores here stop taking pre-order's

Might pop into GameStop tomorrow and see what their console trade in prices are.

Ooh exciting! @ Frodo

Well I'm gonna pass on it for now. Judging by my experience with the 3DS the eshop will be pants so that just leaves Mario Bros U which is not enough to buy a console. Will wait for Pikmin and some other decent games to come out.

Played it at a gamestop conference.
Played zombiu.

If you dont own a ps3 or xbox, are a medium casual gamer and can afford it I say buy it,and seriously pre book it! It will sell out.
Mario and zombiu were excellent.

Not drumming up trade i promise its really cool and having ur weapons cache ,level map etc on the touchscreen really really works.

On the other hand the new ittybitty 500gb ps3 is out now.

Well it launched in the US over the weekend to mixed reviews. The tech sites hate it and apparently its has worse CPU / RAM (40% slower) than Xbox and PS3 - which are 7 year old tech!!!

This lack of power has led to sub-par third party ports not even matching current gen performance - this is shameful!

I want it, but I'm not paying that fuckin' much for it. Also, once you buy it you HAVE to connect it to the internet and download a 1GB update to active the majority of the functions of it, and the update could brick the console.

As usual, it's cheaper in Japan and America, and we pay through the nose. I'll wait until the price drops next year. Hopefully the machine that succeeds this is given a new name and they drop the whole Wii brand, as that name still drives away potential sales from gamers who still see it as a console for casual gamers and not the hardcore ones.

Wii U will get multiplatform games for a year or two but could suffer the same fate as the Wii (no third party support) after that if the gulf is too wide specs wise.

If by "suffering the same fate as the wii" you mean trouncing both other consoles and being Nintendo's greatest success in every region, then it's a fate I'm sure, Nintendo will welcome.
Xbox and Ps3 have only recently begun catching back up,(this is probably why Wii U is on the way for Christmas).

I wish they would stop reinventing the wheel every couple of years and just let us upgrade the consoles to the next level like we can upgrade the PC. They are doing this to squeeze more money out of us, knowing we will dutifully submit because we are hopelessly addicted to gaming.

@ Greenman, the casuals have all gone to Facebook, iPad, etc, Grandma & co aren't going to buy the Wii U in droves like last time.
