For me, perfect as I despise being given a trough of food it puts me right off. You won't walk out hungry that's for sure. They are bordering on gastro but not quite that hoity toity and you don't have that hote price tag.

I suppose it really does depend on your taste and price range. For instance Shanahans on the Green in my opinion is completely overrated and over priced. Chapter One is magnificent if you can afford it! I would put the residence below it along with Patrick Guilbaud. Down then from there you have Bang, really nice food, great service not cheap but certainly not the price tag of michelins.

http://www.onepico.com/alacarte.php is also nice bit spendy maybe

For cheaper with a really nice casual atmosphere I like Salamanca:

Hope you have a lovely time wherever you go

Cafe Topolis on Parliment street is a nice spot. Mainly Italian food. It's two doors up from the Front Lounge.

Cactus Jacks do a nice early bird menu too.

It was expensive - they didn't have ribs the first two times we went in. The food wasn't bad.

Had a meal in Fiorentina last night and had to share this with everyone. Simply amazing. The food was outstanding, the wine was great and the staff were excellent. It is right on the corner of Dame Street and Parliament Street so it is very handy but it is one to try for anyone who enjoys good food. Couldn't say enough for the entire experience

I was in The Green Hen on Friday night and will never return! I was disgusted the food was OK but not great the wine was nice but the service was dreadful. At the end of the meal for four of us, which I admit I wasn't paying for, the bill was €379.20. My friend put down €400 cash to be asked if he "needed change from this". Disgusting. Will never ever return again. Yet in Fiorentina I was paying, same friends, similar bill, I was using a card and had to ask to leave a tip as the machine didn't prompt me. Fiorentina, very deservedly got considerably more than €20 and they didn't have to guilt me into it.

Being in Waterford City I would recommend Sabai,L'atmosphere,Là Boheme,Espresso,Bodega and the Olive tree especially though one or two others I would consider.

For the county I would not really know but the Tannery(Dungarvan)and then Cliff(I think)in Ardmore are very very highly recommended.
