Airbnb - Would You Do It?

It was announced today that Airbnb is making its European base in Dublin. http://www.independent.ie/business/budget-accommodation-firm-air- etc ...

For those who don't know, the company is currently worth over $2 billion and has really taken off over the past year. It's basically coush surfing for adults. Traditional couch surfing is supposed to be free but with Airbnb, you pay your hosts. Here's a good explanation video.

Two-pronged question.
First, would you stay in somebody's gaff through Airbnb?
Second, if you had a spare room, would you put it up on Airbnb?

Done it a few times. It's handy and cheaper than a hotel and I've had no problems. Know loads of people who host, its a bit of easy money.

I didn't think I would like to stay in someones house but I just did a quick search for gay friendly places and found this in New York.

http://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/5135
Only €69 a night for 2 people in New York is amazing, especially considering that they've kitted the rooms out like a hotel - with flat screen TV, coffee maker, free Wi-fi, mini fridge, etc.

A room like this would be very tempting! But I think it would have to be something a little special for me to stay in Airbnb. Lots of the places are the same price as a standard B&B and really aren't up to much.

On average I've paid about 25 euro for a double room and some were beautiful.

Sounds like a great idea.

My Uncle has done House swapping and I'm registered on Couch Surfing but never done it.

It's great I think.

Looking at using it later this year.

I think, by going on reviews, you'd have a fairly good idea of what the place would be like.

Lots of people renting their entire home too so you're not tied to sharing.

I registered last week.

I've done couch surfing as a host before and I really enjoyed it.

I also did home exchange this year and it worked out even better than expected.

So I'm up for hosting but I wouldn't be trying to make a killing on it. My current asking price in E20 a night for a double room in an owner-occupied apartment in a Dublin city suburb. Basic breakfast materials (bread, eggs, milk, cereals, tea, coffee, fruit, juice) included.

For the room (one or two people). I put it low starting off. If I get much traction, I might up it to E25 or put on an extra person supplement of E10.

This sounds like a great idea. I don't think it sounds like it is that different from your average BnB experience.

I think I would do this especially if you are stuck somewhere, the hotels just take advantage of you in this situation. I'd be up for trying it at least and see how it goes, sure most of the time you are away you are hardly ever in the place you only usually need a bed to rest for the night - so would be a good solution alright, it might get the hotels to lower their high asking prices as well.

No, no queries but I haven't put in a good description yet and I need to expand the range of dates it's available for.

I don't think I could do this. I'm too awkward - besides the reviews would kill me.
