Homophobia Or The Fear Of Anal Sex

# 1 : Sunday 23-2-2014 @ 16:13

I have been thinking about homophobia and how the religious fanatics seem to equate it with anal sex. I think we need some sort of campaign to educate people that:

gay =/= anal sex

I know a lot of gay men who do not have anal sex, but the general thought seems to be that you cannot love another man unless one of your penises is in the others anus.

Just like not all lesbians use dildos (very few that I know do)

Do you think this could be why there is some ignorance and fear on behalf of some of the masses and can we fix it?

Straight people love anal sex too.

I think that the homophobia issue is very complex and as elat pointed out, straight people like Anal sex too. The LGBT community is a minority community in society and as such will be feared by certain elements within the larger community. Anal sex will be seen by the Zealots as one of the worst forms of gay practice and consequently these elements will see this as a potential threat to all society and to themselves. Most of these people are uncomfortable in their own sexuality and are often Homophobic because they are fighting deeply bueried homosexual desires themselves.
Sex is a very powerful force and any deviation from the "norm" is feared and condemned by those who are unable to see the bigger picture and also by religions because of the effects on population growth etc. Most fail to see that it is better that one man love another or one woman love another than that we go out and make war on each other.

Exactly, perhaps we need our straight sisters to wear a "I had anal sex" t-shirt

If they realised that not all gay men practice anal sex would it lower their bigotry?

There is no doubt this is part of it. The Church has a millenia old fixation with it, stemming from a conviction that sex must only be about procreation.

Nothing will lower the bigotry of these people because what you are dealing with is fear and the fact remains that some men still do engage in Anal sex.

I don't think it's an ignorance we need to fix. The vast majority of people don't really care what gay people do in the bedroom. The only ones that are repulsed by anal sex are, by and large, the bible-thumpers.

What people do with their body is their own business really. I don't see why a gay man should explain to a homophobe that they don't have anal sex, so they will stop treating them like a second class citizen.

I think the problem is reducing homosexuality to a sexual act in general rather than a choice of who you love. I feel sometimes that when tell someone I am "lesbian" all they hear is "I fuck other women". I don't think the gay community help this perception either, I cringe when I see a guy in butless chaps mincing down o'connel street at mid day with kids around (pride), I would cringe if it was a hooker in latex waders before you start screeching at me.

Well I think Pride is a particular occasion, like Mardi Gras or Halloween and I see no problem with extravagant attire at a parade.

It's not a choice.

Perhaps they hear "I am sexually attracted to other women and I have sexual intimacy with women",
and sure isn't that exactly what lesbianism is.
Don't try to tell me that part of it is being emotionally attracted to women.

Why not? I'm more than just sexually attracted to men. I have no emotional interest in women as partners.

There's more too a relationship, than having sex and children!
