Thanks lads.

It's still sort of sinking in. It's all good.

She said on the phone that she hoped that some day I would find a partner. I said nothing. I think I'll wait till another time to tell her I have one. But it'll be grand.

Well done Lari...may I add about the time i came out to my 2 parents ..the connection is that they were old.... (my grandparents are dead).. and i was warned not to tell my parents since they were 'too old' .... anyway i sat them down and told them in 2009.... my mom said ' she is too old to understand transgender but loved me no matter what... and dad said thats fine with him.....Dad died this january... i just needed to share that..

I think gay men who want to come out feel safer telling a female relative first as polls show they are not as homophobic. Recent Red C poll said 31% were voting no to 26% of women. Gender conformism is a factor in male homophobia.

Thanks Dora. That is a positive story. I suppose if a family member truly loves you they will accept you no matter what.

Atilla: An interesting thought. My mother was the first in my family to know, and I was apprehensive about telling my father, even though he was not at all bothered by it and was completely loving and supportive. My other grandmother has Alzheimer's and has had it now for a number of years, but I know had she been in her right mind she'd have been one of the first people I would have told.

Thanks Kneel.

Here's an interesting piece from today's IT. The anecdote about the 92-year-old lady is relevant. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/middle-aged-and-eldery-vo etc ...

Bet you soon find her propping up the bar in your gay haunts vetting all the potentials

WHAT??? You can't have. Your profile says you're single. Damn. Another good guy crossed of the 'possibles' list.

Truth be told, I was reluctant to tempt fate (still am).

Also, I'm flattered.
