Living a lie is bad for a person's mental health bad for their mental health too,
When they eventally own up to their lie , what is there to congratulate.
Its one thing trying to pass for straight ( like we dont know ) it's another to marry some poor woman to allay suspicion...

You are being extremely callous and it is very difficult to see towards what end.

Have you not read the thread? It's not always black and white. Not everyone knows what orientation they are. And you're dead right - living a lie is terrible for a person's health but in that state people tend to make poor decisions. Some people suppress it so well that they don't even come out to themselves until it's too late.

What there is to congratulate is that they found the bravery to face the demons that they were running from for their adult life.

You make it sounds like every one of these people have full knowledge of what they're doing. For sure, some do. But I know some who absolutely did not.

It would be great if you could see the grey area in the middle rather than the two extremes of this issue.

As a wise bald young mad once said - more people are interested in being right than finding the truth.

I do feel very sorry for Hirst's wife. It must have been very hurtful and not a little humiliating for her to have to deal with the fact that her soon to be ex husband is gay.

It's also pretty sad that Hirst, who is nearly 14 years my junior felt pressured to enter a marriage because be couldn't come to terms with his true sexuality. It just shows how heteronormative the world is and the pressures to conform. I hope that Hirst and his wife find happiness in the years to come.

Some would also argue that the way the wife was treated - effectively used as cover for someone's sexuality - was cruel also? I have more sympathy for her but I have some for him too.

Internal homophobia for one.

If you have got through this life without demons you are a lucky person.
