I never tried it but I think it's one of those things you~re better off investing a bit more. A cheap VR set must be awful.

I'm sure you should be able to test it in some stores.

When I bought my new Samsung s7 edge - I got one for free (worth 100 euro or so).

I've only used it a handful of times - I'm not a bit fan. It made me feel queasy and I was a bit head-achy afterward..watching Netflix on it was just disorientating.

There you go. You can sell it to Starfire then!

A mate has the HTC Vive with motion, camera and external motion tracking.
He's running it with a GTX 1080, i7 7770k and 32gb of ram.

It's absolutely brilliant and we had great fun over Christmas and the New year playing with it. But it gives me a headache after a bit.

The roomscale 360 degree tracking is fantastic (particularly when playing fruit ninja while pissed).

It's great craic until you see videos of yourself doing it
In your VR world you think you look and move like Michael Dudikoff but when you watch the videos back, you just look like a drunk bloke getting attacked by wasps.

I'm going to wait a couple of generations before I jump in. They're still figuring out a lot of the technical stuff plus its prohibitively expensive. Better to jump in when the visuals are top notch, the headsets aren't shaped like toasters and everything is much cheaper.

True. Why spend money on clunky, inferior tech when you can be a bit more patient and wait for better, cheaper versions?

It's a bit on the clunky side alright.
I'd never drop a grand on a toy like that anyway. I've better things to be spending cash on. He has money coming out his ears though and likes to have the latest and greatest thing as soon as it arrives.
It's still good fun though

Pointless fad.
Technically not ready. Requires too much processing power to get a decent experience.
When getting a descent experience, very likely to make you sick, especially games that were not designed well (which is most of them).
Unlikely to be a comfortable experience, and if it is, it is not for long as the gear is "in the way".

Waste of time and money, in my book.

Unless you are working in industries where there is an interest for it, and you can pretend you are interested, because there is such an interest that you should be able to ride that money-making pony for 10 years before these projects realize they are throwing good money after bad.
If so hitch your ride to that gravy-train, until the money stop being thrown at hit, then jump to the next band-wagon before you can take the blame.
