Reality TV Shows - Repulsive?

# 1 : Tuesday 14-3-2017 @ 09:07

I was thinking of the explosion of so-called "reality" TV shows over the past 10 to 15 years and I honestly can't think of one that actually reflects real life. They all abound in obnoxious, rude, load, spoilt, precious and narcissistic individuals that you love to loathe. And of course they are filled up with bitchiness, drama and backstabbing. I mean, who would want to watch boring real life, right?

One particularly repulsive reality show is The A List Of New York, which follows the supposed wonderful lives of the rich and beautiful gay men in Manhattan who have it all. It's such a stereotyped view of gay men and portrays us as super shallow and supremely vain and, of course, uber bitchy.

Link below. Enjoy!

Nothing worse than someone bitching about TV programmes. If you don't like it, switch channels. No one is making you watch gay stereotypes in New York City.

Who is saying Jupiterkid is a big fan of this show or watches it?

He is opening up a topic for discussion.

I think you'll find that I'm entitled to start a thread on reality TV programmes. I'm just seeking the views of others on them. Is that such a crime?

That's what makes them so great! It's fun to think "God, what is this delusional idiot going to do or say next ..." And they play up to that I'm sure. There are of course some shows that go overboard (probably that property one you mention that I haven't seen) but when the mix is right, its just a bit of fun.

If people ignore shit like zelebs, Kate Hopkins, the kardashians. reality tv etc...
It goes away.

Starting a thread just gives it more space in the world.
Feel free though?
I just ignore all the zeleb stuff, so it doesn't bother me.

I love that show even though Bear was acting mentally retarded in it before he got booted off!

The receptionist Tom is adorable even though he's not my type.

When I first saw this topic I thought "I don't watch reality shows, then realised that I do, not the shouty mouthy and maggot eating ones, but the more educational ones like "Real Marigold Hotel" or "A very British Hotel", curious and often funny and great viewing.

Actually feel sorry for Ferne. She's a nice girl. She's getting awful shit on Twitter, hope she ignores them all. Her (hopefully ex) boyfriend will hopefully get a few years if he is indeed guilty. Scummy thing to do.

I fucking hate reality tv because it's so obviously fake and puts all the idiots on tv.

Also it's a cynical way of making cheap television. So much easier than writing and producing fiction or documentaries.

Reality Tv has had its day and is now scraping the barrel. This kinda thing doesn't even have a point.. least the Americas Next Top Model and X-Factor type shows pose as competitions. This is just silly and no doubt scripted to try and be dramatic and keep people interested. Big Brother was good for the first 2-3 seasons... now I don't even watch a single episode when its on and they really killed it with the 'Celebrity' (aka never heard of this person) versions.
