Terrorist Attack In Sweden

Where I live there's hundreds of Muslims and I don't think one has ever even looked at me in a funny way. All this blaming the religion, blaming every Muslim for the actions of a few is just creating more tensions. I think it's disgusting the way 1.8 billion people are being vilified for a few mad yokes running amok.

And that is exactly what extremists want, turn the West against Islam so they can have their holy war.

And let's face it, too many American Christians want the same, they think they're on some sort of holy war too.

Agreed. And I feel it makes the whole situation worse by creating a tense atmosphere and causing increases in racist hate crime attacks. Some people complain muslims don't want to integrate. But these people are the ones who treat them almost like dirt and don't actually want them to integrate anyway.

I remember my parents car being searched in the uk in the 80s and My Sister being asked if she carried bombs over in the 90s because of the actions of the IRA. Like the vast majority of Irish people were not IRA bombers, the vast majority of muslims are not terrorists and want peaceful.

Attitudes like the OPs are frankly abhorrent and disgusting in my opinion.

And where did I opine that all Muslims were to blame for terrorist attacks? I said no thing of the sort. Just because many people are concerned at the nature of immigration to Europe doesn't make them xenophobes. Look at Brexit, look at Trumps election, look at the rise of the far right wing in the West. All regrettable in my opinion as more people become unhappy at the status quo. Why can't we have an honest discussion about the nature of Islamist terrorism? Shouting down people who hold different views to your own will not achieve anything.

I don't get how so many people are so callous when it comes to refugees.

Syrians are suffering what amounts to a messy, slow genocide, it's all happening basically at Europe's door. Yet when they try to escape and seek a life here all some can think of is how this will inconvenience them or that they "don't integrate" or are terrorists in disguise or whatever.

Seriously!

As appalling as terrorist attacks in Europe have been it's a tiny fraction of what Syrians and others suffer every day.

Everytime I see someone commenting on Facebook saying "We should look after our own first" I want to slap them around the face!!

Ya know what, I'm perfectly happy to shout you down! How many hundreds of thousands of people come onto EU shores every year? How many hundreds have bad intentions? You're judging and trying to exclude people on the basis of the actions of a massive minority. For fuck sake, more people die on the roads.... you gonna ban cars?

I fear people like you way more than the prospect of a terrorist attack. You disgust me!

What exactly is an honest discussion about Islamist terrorism?

http://bigthink.com/paul-ratner/what-are-the-chances-of-being-kil etc ...

The probability of getting killed by a Refugee is 1 in 3.6 billion ..
Since 9/11, an average of 9 people per year were killed by Muslim extremists in the U.S. By comparison - 37,000 people die ever year from traffic accidents and 12,843 are killed by guns

This hysteria about Muslims and immigrants feeds into the growth of the far right and Brexit and Trump so I really don't understand how you can claim to be worried about these when your attitudes are feeding into them.

Yup. And I used to think I was right wing but the right wing now is so right wing that I am suddenly left-wing.
