Aussie Flu Outbreak

# 1 : Tuesday 2-1-2018 @ 18:14

Hi all,

I was reading up about the outbreak of the Aussie flu in Ireland, or a very virulent strain of Influenza A. Apparently thousands of people in Ireland are coming down with it and are very ill. A&E services and GPs are overloaded with new cases, and the HSE has confirmed multiple deaths directly attributable to this flu. Experts are saying it could be the worst outbreak of flu since the 1968 Spanish flu pandemic.

The authorities are urging as many people as possible, and especially vulnerable groups who are elderly or have underlying health issues, to get vaccinated. I am seriously thinking of getting vaccinated myself.

Has anyone here got infected or know anyone infected? Have you been vaccinated or do you plan on getting vaccinated?

There are a few things going around which that article confirmed , the gastric flu seems the worst because the intestinal pains are very bad but they pass but anybody I know thought they had something like appendicitis or kidney problems but they went away after a week.

Haven't heard of any cases here - just a few mild colds. Hopefully it doesn't get too serious. Also, probably a bit early to be comparing it to the Spanish Flu but that's newspapers for ye.

Conor McGregor had it over the holidays. Had to cancel everything and hit the bed for a while. Unfortunately it won't keep him down for long.

Just like the Bacteria are rapidly developing too survive antibiotics. The Flu Virus will rapidly develop too survive the Flu Jab, Creating more virulent strains along the way & not giving us enough time too develop proper immunity.. Our DNA mutates a hell of lot slower than that of Bacteria & Viruses.. Not trying too be all doomsday here but, we should proceed with caution..

It's a bit draaaama how do we proceed with caution?
I mean at least during the avian flu you had people phoning in about dead birds and people trying to get their hands on antivirals
This isn't even spread by aussies or kiwis ?

Well, I got the flu jab at my local pharmacy this morning. It was quick and painless. I’m not classified as vulnerable so had to fork out €20 but I hope it’s worth it.

Experts think the flu will peak in about 2-3 weeks so it’s not too late to get the vaccine now if you want.
